What’s with me and Pockets???
SCRAP
Someday, when the page no longer begs for my ink, when I can sit in front of the TV and actually understand what’s going on with all those explosions and visual effects, when my arms are contented squeezing a simple, soft pillow, and when my mornings are finally as predictable as a cliche first sentence in an amateur essay, jealousy will die. By then, I may remember a thing or two when my vision lands upon a familiar book on a bored Saturday stroll in the mall. A thin scent of something like coffee or mocha may make my nose sniff uncontrollably. People would be talking about important stuff but my ears may hear faint laughter or “oohs” and “aahs.” Perhaps I’d be too tired then since I’d have too many Saturday strolls and too many TV marathons. So what I’d do is just find the nearest bench from where my weak feet are planted on, and I’d sit there, breathe deeply, put my hands in my pockets and let my fingers feel the scraps of the other day. I may pull out an emotionally crumpled piece of paper and a cheap, greasy pen and start writing something. The first sentence would be a complaint about the music of the times and the second sentence would be a glorification of yesterday’s food. The third would be an apology for another mediocre blog entry on the Internet. The fourth would be about the futility of plans and the constant vacuum of the past. The fifth would be about some old room in an aged building that seems to have plans to stand eternally. And at that point, I’d have no choice, but not to finish writing or whatever I am doing, breathing perhaps and sitting, because at that point, I’d have no choice but to think about you.
This was brought to you by the generosity of:

O.K. I know I keep making posts that have something to do with pockets. I realized this as I was puting this up. First the Chelsea Walls poem, then the origami Love Letters, and now this poem Scrap. So, I guess I have just made a personal epiphany that pockets seem to hold some symbolic meaning for me. Maybe a poetic, dreamy-eyed idea of somewhere to keep something of importance close to you; somewhere in the spur of the moment you tuck a piece of paper, coins, maybe a trinket, a matchbook with an uncalled phone number, thinking that you want to keep it for whatever reason. Time passes, as it always does, one day you look out your window and see stormy, sooty skies, it’s going to be a real down pour. So, you grab your jacket, crumpled by the door and swing it on as you step out into the first bloppy drops of rain and brace yourself against the wind, shoving your hands deep into your pockets and touch something. You work the angles in your fingers, pull it out and, boom, you’re transported back to that place, a cocktail lounge, an airport baggage carousel, the old movie theater before it was torn down, and you see those big chocolate eyes, smell the lingering scent of a cigarette long crushed under someones heel and then you remember why you shoved it into your pocket. Where it has been. Waiting. Caught between sheets of material. A piece of your forgotten past…. in a pocket.
I know, my imagination gets carried away.
Anyway,… I may put up yet another post with a pocket theme, who knows, but, I hope you will indulge my fantasy. Until then, check out the link. He has an interesting way of writing that I enjoy ( you don’t even know it was a love poem until the very last line – nice touch ). A little refreshing way of writing from the everyday stuff about everyday stuff …and love , of course, or it wouldn’t be here.
I hope you enjoy it, too.
So, am I the only one with a poetic pocket fantasy – I know that sounds absurd
- or do you have one, too? You know I’d love to hear it.

Love letters

The other day I was thinking of bits of whimsical ideas things like red balloons, love letters, paper laterns ( I love lanterns ) and paper hearts. I think that the phrase, paper heart, is intriguing. I checked it out and couldn’t really find a specific definition but, I think it is used in reference to some one with fragile emotions. ( Do you know what it means exactly?)Also, there is a movie from the Sundance Film Festival this year with that title, and it’s the title to a song by the All American Rejects; I have not watched the film’s trailer or listened to the song yet but, I’m going to.
Anyway, paper hearts, they seem a bit sad to other people yet I think it sounds, well, whimsical. A little poetic. Inspiring. More in a literal sence for me. The idea of a love letter meets origami is so super cute and lovely. Puppy love perfect.
So, here is a link to an origami site for you to learn how to fold a quick origami heart.
http://www.wikihow.com/Make-an-Origami-Heart
Just a little gift of a hand made heart is cute. Step it up a bit and write a little love note an the paper you’re going to use before you start folding, maybe scent it with your favorite perfume…there are lots of really great additions you can make to specialize your heart and get a really lovey-dovey ‘awww’ moment.
For those of you experiencing a little writer’s block I’ve included a poem, enjoy!
PAPER HEARTS
Angels didn’t see fit to leave our hearts on Earth
They were too easily bruised, too easily hurt.
So, they stored them up above
and sent us down intangible love.
But, how to give this to you?
I just don’t know.
It’s intangible.
You can’t tie it with a bow.
So, I’ve found this sheet of paper and on it I wrote.
Thinking only of you I made the bends and the folds.
Carefully, smoothly, and just so, and put all my love inside and made a heart you could hold.
Take it carefully, paper has been known to tear, and tuck it into your pocket and always keep it there so, that you’ll know that you’re loved whenever you leave and wherever you go.
Paper hearts can bend and fold and the ink may fade in time but, please, remember that what’s inside is more than a sweet valentine. It’s a love and a heart, now yours, that once were mine.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Perfume Review…. You had me at Pimento
Well, the other day I ordered some perfume samples from Lucky Scent. If you have never been there or don’t know what it is you should totally check it out. It’s a wonderful site where you can buy perfume from great perfume houses, some large well known houses to boutique perfumeries. If you’re not sure which ones you like or would like to try it out before commiting to an olfactory investment you can buy a sample and have it shipped to your door. The descriptions are entertaining, too.
Here’s the link:
O.K., so, back to my samples. I chose an organic perfume from Honore Des Pres called Trip. The notes are listed as pure tangerine extract, Mediterranean oranges, yellow and green lemons, pepper, pimento, resins. Interesting? I thought so, too. Especially since it is organic. Go Green! Right? The pimento was what I had to try, hence the post title ( my apologies to Renee Zellweger
) since the little red strip stuffed into my olives never really registered as perfume material on my scale.
So, how did it wear? Honore Des Pres Trip is a lot like a giggle. The top notes smell just like Fruit Loops! Not in a overly sticky sweet way, but in a Sunday morning cereal bowl filled with happy colorful O’s floating in a mini milky ocean. Then it heads directly into the fresh citrus that is very nice and enjoyable, afterwards warming up with the resins, which I believe to be frankincense.
The down side is that it lasts as long as a giggle, too. The whole progression from Fruit Loop to citrus to resin to a complete full stop finish is under an hour. Quite remarkable, really. I have never had a perfume that faded so quickly. All three of us that tried it had the same experience. I didn’t really pick up the pimento. Maybe, I need to learn exactly what it smells like in order to say whether it made an appearance or not. It definetly did not shout it out, though. It really is a nice perfume, but it needs to last longer for me.
Have any of you tried it yet?
I’d love to know if anyone else has ever had a cologne or perfume that was so transient?

I Want………..Poem
“I want to be a lost poem in a stranger’s coat pocket, that conveys the importance of you. To assure you of my desire, to assure you of dreams.
I want all the possibilities of you in writing.
I want to give you your reflection, I want your eyes on me, I want to travel to the lightness with you and stay there, and I want everything before you… …everything before you to follow us like a trail behind me.
I want never to say goodbye to you, even on the street corner or the phone. I want, I want so much… I’m breathless.
I want to put my power into a poem to burn a hole in your pocket so I can sew it.
I want my words to scream through you. I want the poem not to mean that much.
And I want to contradict myself by accident, and for you to know what I mean.
I want you to be distant and for me to feel you close, I want endless days when it’s day and… nighttime never to end when it’s night.
I want all the seasons in one day.
I want the sun to set before us and come up in front of us.
I want water up to our waists and to be drenched by the rain, up to our ankles with holes in our shoes. …with holes in our shoes.
I want to think your thoughts because they’re mine.
I want only what’s urgent with you.
I want to get in the way of the barriers and I want you to be a tough guy when you’re supposed to, like you do already. …when you’re supposed to. And I want you to be tender, like you do already.
And I want us to have met for a reason and I want that reason to be important.
And I want it to be bigger than us, I want it to take over us.
I want to forget.
I want to remember us.
And when you say you love me I don’t want to think you really mean New York City, and all the fun we have in it.
And I want your smile always, and your grimaces too.
I want your scar on my lips, and I want your disappointments in my heart.
I want your strength in my soul and I want your soul in my eyes.
I want to believe everything you say, and I do. And I want you to tell me what’s best when I don’t know.
And when you’re lost I want to find you.
And when you’re weary I want to give you steeples and cathedral thoughts and coliseum dreams.
I want to drag you from the darkness and kneel with you exhausted with the blinding light blaring on us… and…”

” I want to be a lost poem in a strangers coat pocket… steeples and cathedral thoughts and coliseum dreams “, mmm , such truely poetic ideas. I think it’s lovely. This was found on LeLove Image today. This site is listed on my links, but I’ll link it again: http://www.leloveimage.blogspot.com
Apparently it is also a video on You Tube by Chelsea Walls.
Well, you know my favorite lines, now what are yours?

Ginger…a la parfum
This is the second installation into my exploration of essential oils used in perfumes. Today it’s ginger. Ginger seems to me to be a middle note. When I first applied it to my skin the immediate scent was earthy, the root of the ginger root apparent. Surprizing since I was expecting the sharp lemon pepperiness of the freshly grated ginger I use in food.
After about fifteen minutes the earthy-ness started to change towards the pepper and spice. Also it became a touch sweeter. I was happy for the change because that’s what I love about ginger, a peppery zing. And that is where it stayed for its short visit. By an hour and a half it was completely gone. No trace left upon my skin
That is the way of top to middle notes I’ve heard and that is why they need a base note. To carry them through the hours of our day. Base notes are known as fixatives because they allow the top and middle notes to harmonize and linger in their company. Making a proper perfume when combined.
I have included a list of perfumes containing ginger for your scented pleasure.
They are:
Esteban Le Bain Secrete Afrique
i Profumi di Firenze Zenzero
Jack Black Signature Blue Mark
Ebba by Sand
Montale Ginger Musk
Nelly Rodi Scent Factory No.5 Ginger
I found this list on a cute web site that specializes in niche, boutique and specialty perfumes. Check them out at:
So, have you ever tried any of these fragrances? A sample from a perfume counter or a staple on your perfume shelf? Or maybe you have a different ginger scent that you love; either way I’m interested in your experience and recommendations.
